Indigenous nations are already playing a central role in developing transmission infrastructure across Turtle Island. This makes sense, all key potential transmission corridors run through traditional territories of Indigenous nations; any new transmission line in Canada should only occur with the free, prior, and informed consent of the impacted Nations. This paper offers an overview of Canada’s transmission networks and is intended to provide Indigenous Nations with an introductory look at transmission lines and the opportunities for Indigenous leadership.
